At the moment we are finishing off our bee project and I was set the task of finding a recipe with honey in and then cooking it!
I decided to make apricot flapjacks!
Here's the recipe- Apricot Flapjacks ( makes 10)
You will need -
Sunflower oil
175g of butter
85g of sugar
about 3 1/2 tablespoons of clear honey (local if possible)
140g of ready to eat dried apricots(chopped)
225g of porridge oats
Preheat the oven to 18o oc/350 0f/ gas mark 4, lightly oil a 26 times 17 cm cake tin.
Put butter, sugar and honey into a saucepan over a low heat and heat until the ingredients have melted together ( do NOT allow the mixture to boil).
When the the ingredients are warm and well combined, sir in the apricots and oats!
Spoon the mixture into the cake tin level with the back of a spoon. Cook in the oven for 20- 25 mins or until golden brown. Remove from the oven, cut in to 10 bars and leave to cool.
Consume within 2-3 days!

How To Help Bees !

1. Plant More Flowers - You could start planting more flowers in your garden.

2. Don't Dig Up Your Hedge - Leave your hedge alone. the bees love it.

3. Leave Some Land Alone - If you own a field, garden or any piece of land you could let some of it or all of it grow wild.
4. Be careful Were You Spray Insecticides - If you spray insecticide near a hive, on flower/plant or on a bee you could really harm or kill the it.

5. Buy And Support Your Local Honey Or Beekeeper - If you support you beekeeper he or she will be able to help or keep more bees.

Save The Bees

Why are bees so important?

Bees not only make us wonderful honey, but they also pollinate flowers, trees and some of the foods we eat, so if they were to become extinct not only would we not have any honey we would have less trees, flowers and food like -apples,beans,blackcurrants,cucumber,onions and loads more!

Why Are Our Bees Dying ?

1. Diseases - Because bees live in hives, if one bee becomes ill there is no-where he or she can go,without infecting the other bees that live in the hive.

2. Varroe Mite - The varroe mite sucks blood out of bees and as it does this it passes on a virus to the bee.
3. Insecticides - Insecticide is used to kill insects and could harm bees if used incorrectly.

4. Changing Weather - Because of the wet summers we have been having plants and flowers have been growing at different times than they normally do, so bees can't get the nectar they need to stay alive.
5. Not enough hedges and flowers.- People are planting less and less flowers, digging up hedges and turning fields full of wild flowers into fields full of animals or crops.

So why don't we all go and do something to SAVE OUR BEES!
